Abstract: In the 1950's Steinhaus asked whether there is a set in the plane that meets each isometric copy of Z^2 in exactly one point. I will discuss some of the ideas involved in the construction of such a set given by Steve Jackson and myself and discuss several unsolved problems concerning other lattices and measurability of such sets.
